Business Development
There are several major opportunities for new development, and redevelopment, in Merriam. The old K-Mart site, Merriam Town Center, and Downtown Merriam will all see major investments in the near future and the city will have opportunity to guide that development. To ensure the success of these projects, focus is needed on the infrastructure and systems required to support these developments. For instance, I believe that the city should prioritize securing additional funding for flood mitigation projects to alleviate development restrictions placed on our downtown given its floodplain location.
Accountability and Transparency
I believe that Merriam needs to be transparent and accountable so that people know how their tax dollars are being spent. Important information, specifically regarding policy and finances, should be shared with the public before decisions are made, so that people have time to process and voice their opinion in a timely manner.
Sustainability and Resilience
Statistically, temperatures are rising and the shift shows no sign of slowing down. Severe weather events are also increasing in intensity and frequency. I believe that there is good work to be done to prepare Merriam for these changes. As a city, Merriam can’t solve these issues on our own, but as a community, we can do our part to create public spaces and infrastructure that leverage natural, sustainable systems in the best interests of our Merriam residents and businesses.
Parks
With a young family, we love the opportunity to get out to the park and enjoy the outdoors. Covid-19 has also taught us the value of outdoor gathering spaces. I want to make sure that the city continues to invest wisely in our parks and trail systems so there are opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.
Family
My family loves living in Merriam. We enjoy the people, the businesses, and the community.
I want to see Merriam be the best version of itself for my daughter as she grows. We, as a family, want the same things that everyone else wants--a safe community where people can enjoy themselves and know they belong.
